About us

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

dear patients,

Lung cancer is the third most common malignant tumor disease in women and the second most common malignant tumor disease in German-speaking countries and occurs predominantly in the second half of life. The number of new cases in Germany is currently estimated at around 55,000 per year. In the vast majority of cases, lung cancer is caused by smoking, much less often by other carcinogenic substances such as Asbestos or fumed silica. The prognosis of lung cancer depends on various factors (e.g. the type of tumor, its size and its spread to other organs).

The lung cancer center at the Marburg location was founded in 2015 under the patronage of the CCC Marburg as a “lung cancer center in transit”. Our center has been certified as a lung cancer center by the German Cancer Society since 2019. To maintain this certification, we undergo an annual external review by OnkoZert.

Interdisciplinary collaboration and well-organized networking of specialists from the individual disciplines (thoracic surgery, pulmonology, oncology, radiology, pathology, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy and psycho-oncology) ensure rapid and comprehensive care in our house. For targeted diagnostics, we use the latest examination techniques such as computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) and endoscopic ultrasound (EBUS). For the treatment of lung cancer, we offer the entire spectrum of possible therapy options, starting with lung operations (including "minimally invasive surgery"), through chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Each patient case is presented at our interdisciplinary tumor conference, which takes place twice a week, and a specialized team of doctors from the participating disciplines defines the best possible individual concepts for treating lung cancer. Our goal here is a long-term improvement in the survival rates of lung cancer patients.

On the following pages you will find further information for patients and referring physicians about our focus areas and competencies, about our team, and how to get in touch easily. We would like to introduce our center to you and provide you with some essential information. However, these cannot and should in no way replace the discussion with the treating experts. Please contact us if you have any questions or suggestions.
